Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is mostly known as the Chota Char Dham of India. The four Abodes situated in the Himalayas include four holy shrines of Hindus: Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. All four of these shrines are located within the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. The prominence of the Charm Dham Yatra is enormous amongst Hindus. It is also believed that every Hindu should do Char Dham Yatra at least once in their lifetime.

Char Dham Yatra detailed tour route

The high-altitude pilgrimage sites remain shut for around six months every year, opening in summer (April/May) and closing with the onset of winter (October/November). Hence, the tour starts from Yamunotri, proceeds towards Gangotri, then Kedarnath, and finally ends at Badrinath. The journey can be accomplished through road or air transport (helicopter services are available). Some devotees can even do a Do Dham Yatra or a pilgrimage to two shrines, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The Yamunotri temple is lodged in a narrow canyon close to the source of River Yamuna in Uttarkashi district which is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The district of Uttarkashi is also known to be the home to the Gangotri temple which is devoted to Goddess Ganga, the most sacred of all Indian rivers. Situated in the Rudraprayag district lies Kedarnath which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Badrinath is home to the sacred Badrinarayan Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Char Dham Yatra is as divine as it is relentless but fulfills the soul.
