Kailash Mansarovar is a revered pilgrimage site in the Tibetan Himalayas, centered around the sacred Mount Kailash (abode of Lord Shiva) and the pristine Lake Mansarovar, considered purifying. Itinerary

Day 01:- Kathmandu arrival

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal's vibrant capital city. Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal. Upon completing the visa formalities and collecting your luggage in the airport, kindly proceed to the exit of the arrival hall. Your trip leader will await you just outside the arrival hall and will escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Please lookout for a play card of Gorkha International Travels at the exit of the arrival hall. Welcome drinks will be served and after you’ve refreshed, your trek/climb leader will brief you about your trip in the lobby of your hotel in the evening. Get familiar with your surroundings by taking a walk down the street. Our team will be there for your assistance.

Day 02:- Kathmandu to Kerung

The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Kerung, a small town located in Tibet. The drive covers approximately 160 kilometers and takes around 7 to 8 hours, depending on road conditions. As we leave the bustling streets of Kathmandu behind, we transition into the serene and picturesque landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau. The route takes us through the scenic Nepal-Tibet border and ascends into the mountainous terrain of Tibet. We cross the Rasuwagadhi Border, where we complete the necessary immigration and customs formalities. The drive offers stunning views of the lush green valleys, meandering rivers, and rugged mountains.

Upon arriving in Kerung, we check into our accommodations and have some time to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. Kerung, situated at around 2,700 meters, serves as a crucial stop for acclimatization before continuing further into Tibet. In the evening, we have a chance to explore the town and prepare for the next leg of our journey.

Day 03:- Kerung to Saga

First day with a long drive on the desert terrain. Driving past nomad camps and sheep and yak herds. We can see Gaurishankar, Shishapangma and Langtang Himal from the pass. Continue drive through Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen and Peiku tso Lake (4400m). We will be crossing river Brahmaputra ( “Yarling Tsangpo” in Tibetan). 

Upon reaching Saga, situated at around 4,600 meters, we check into our accommodations and take time to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. Saga is a small town that serves as an important hub for traveler's route to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. In the evening, we have time to relax and prepare for the next stage of our journey.

Day 04:- Saga to Paryang to Mansarovar

We continue our journey with a drive from Saga to Lake Mansarovar, passing through Paryang. The drive covers approximately 320 kilometers and takes around 8 to 10 hours, depending on road conditions and weather. We begin by departing from Saga and head towards Paryang, a small town where we make a brief stop for refreshments and to stretch our legs. 

From Paryang, we proceed towards Lake Mansarovar, which is a significant highlight of the journey. As we approach the lake, the landscape transforms, revealing the stunning views of the crystal-clear waters surrounded by majestic peaks. Lake Mansarovar, situated at an altitude of 4,590 meters, is a serene and sacred site, known for its spiritual significance and breathtaking natural beauty. Upon arrival at Lake Mansarovar, we check into our accommodations and take time to rest and acclimatize. The evening offers a chance to explore the lakeshore, enjoy the tranquil environment, and reflect on the journey. 

Day 05:- Drive to Darchen

After some peaceful hours at the shores of the sacred Lake Manasarovar with the snowy massif of Gurla Mandhata 7694m just across the lake, we drive 40 km to Darchen.  The drive usually takes around 1 to 2 hours, offering a short yet scenic journey through the Tibetan highlands. Departing from the tranquil shores of Lake Mansarovar, the route to Darchen takes us through diverse landscapes, including rolling hills and arid plateaus. The drive provides spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including glimpses of Mount Kailash in the distance, heightening the anticipation for our upcoming trek.

Darchen, located at an altitude of about 4,560 meters, serves as the gateway to Mount Kailash and is the starting point for the Kailash Kora pilgrimage. Upon arrival, we check into our accommodations and prepare for the trek around Mount Kailash. The remainder of the day is spent acclimatizing to the altitude and organizing gear for the trek. We may also have time to explore the small town of Darchen, visit local monasteries, and gather supplies for the journey ahead. The evening is dedicated to resting and ensuring everything is in order for the spiritual and physical challenge of the Kailash Kora.

Day 06:- Trek to Dira-Puk

It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs and waterfalls with some clouds in the clear blue sky. We give continuity Our trek from Darchen to Dira-Puk, covering approximately 18 kilometers. The trek takes around 6 to 8 hours, depending on the pace and weather conditions. We start our journey by leaving Darchen behind and heading towards the northern base of Mount Kailash. The trail follows the Lha-chu River and gradually ascends through scenic landscapes, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. As we trek, we pass through high-altitude terrain with diverse vegetation, including sparse shrubs and alpine grasses.

Dira-Puk, situated at an altitude of about 5,020 meters, is our destination for the day. This campsite is located on the north side of Mount Kailash, providing breathtaking views of the mountain’s sheer north face. Upon arrival, we set up camp and take time to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude. The evening is an ideal time to explore the area around the campsite, take in the serene environment, and enjoy the majestic views of Mount Kailash. This night offers a unique opportunity to experience the remote and spiritual ambiance of the region, preparing us for the challenging trek around the mountain’s sacred circumference.

Day 07:- Trek Dira Puk - Zuthal Puk

Hardest but Holiest day of your pilgrimage trek, cross Dolma La pass at 5670 m. Once you reach the top, just do the holiest offering and sit down for meditation to forget you.

Our trek from Dira-Puk to Zuthul-Puk, covers approximately 22 kilometers. This challenging day typically takes around 8 to 10 hours, depending on the pace and weather conditions. The trek begins with a steady ascent as we move towards the Dolma La Pass, the highest point of the Kailash Kora at an altitude of 5,630 meters. The path is rugged and includes steep climbs, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the stunning high-altitude landscape. As we approach Dolma La, the panoramic views of the Himalayas and the surrounding terrain are truly breathtaking.

After crossing the pass, we descend towards Zuthul-Puk, situated at about 4,790 meters. The descent involves navigating through rocky and uneven terrain, but the dramatic scenery and the spiritual significance of the surroundings make it a memorable experience. Zuthul-Puk is known for its tranquil setting and the view of the sacred areas of Mount Kailash. Upon arrival at Zuthul-Puk, we set up camp and rest. The campsite is located near a cave believed to be where the great yogi Milarepa meditated, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the area. In the evening, we can explore the surroundings, reflect on the day’s journey, and enjoy the serene atmosphere of this sacred place.

Day 08:- End of Kailash Parikrama And Drive To Saga

We conclude the Kailash Parikrama and drive back to Saga. The day begins with the final leg of our trek from Zuthul-Puk to Darchen, covering approximately 10 kilometers. This segment of the trek involves a descent through picturesque landscapes, including lush valleys and clear rivers, as we make our way back to Darchen.

Upon reaching Darchen, we rest and have a chance to freshen up before beginning our drive to Saga. The drive covers around 320 kilometers and takes approximately 8 to 10 hours. The route retraces our path through the Tibetan Plateau, passing through scenic high-altitude terrain and remote landscapes.

As we journey back to Saga, we pass through Paryang, where we make a brief stop if needed. The drive offers stunning views of the Tibetan countryside and provides a final opportunity to appreciate the vast, rugged beauty of the region. Upon arrival in Saga, we check into our accommodations and take time to rest after the long day of travel. The evening is an opportunity to relax, reflect on the spiritual and physical journey of the Kailash Parikrama, and prepare for the next stages of our journey.

Day 09:- Drive Back To Kerung

Morning Breakfast at the Guesthouse and a drive from Saga back to Kerung, covering approximately 220 kilometers. The drive usually takes around 7 to 8 hours, retracing our route through the breathtaking Tibetan landscape. As we depart from Saga, we travel through the expansive Tibetan Plateau, characterized by its high-altitude plains and rugged beauty. The journey provides stunning views of the changing landscapes, from the vast grasslands to the more rugged, mountainous terrain.

Upon reaching Kerung, we check into our accommodations and have the rest of the day to relax and acclimate. Kerung, located at a lower altitude compared to the previous days, offers a chance to unwind and recover from the long drive. In the evening, we can explore the town of Kerung, enjoy a meal, and reflect on the spiritual and physical experiences of the past days. This night in Kerung serves as a transition back to lower altitudes before heading back to Kathmandu.

Day 10:- Drive Back To Kathmandu

We start our day with the drive from Kerung, crossing the Nepal-Tibet border at the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint. As we descend from the Tibetan Plateau into Nepal, the landscape gradually transforms from the rugged, high-altitude terrain to the lush, verdant hills of the Kathmandu Valley. The drive provides a scenic transition, showcasing diverse landscapes, including terraced fields, flowing rivers, and vibrant rural villages. Along the way, we enjoy the changing scenery and appreciate the natural beauty of the region.

Upon arriving in Kathmandu, we check into our accommodations and have time to relax after the long journey. The evening is free for you to explore the city, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a celebratory meal. This marks the end of our overland journey to Mt Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, with the opportunity to reflect on the incredible experiences and spiritual significance of the trip. To summarize, we will be driving further to Nepal Tibet border, complete the immigration formalities, get your Nepal visa.  we drive from Kerung back to Kathmandu, covering approximately 160 kilometers. The journey typically takes around 7 to 8 hours, offering a picturesque return to Nepal.

Day 11:- Final Departure

Conclude your 11 days of journey, our team will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure flight. Our team will assist you with the airport procedures, ensuring a smooth transition from your Himalayan adventure to your onward travels. As you leave Kathmandu, take with you the memories of the sacred Mt Kailash, the serene Lake Mansarovar, and the breathtaking landscapes of Tibet. Reflect on the incredible journey and the memories you've made along the way as you return to your home country. Safe travels, and we look forward to welcoming you on future adventures.
